Reviews...H&M

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and holiday! Mine was so relaxing - I went home to Long Island for the weekend and got to hang out with the entire extended family (not to mention, I think I gained about ten pounds). I also managed to squeeze in a quick trip to H&M - and I literally mean squeeze, because oh my god, the store was so crowded. It was, in all honesty, even worse than Black Friday.

The photos are, again, terrible quality, because Blackberries have awful cameras. But I just wanted to quickly share my reviews about a couple new items (and one old) with you.

I specifically went to H&M looking for a kelly green dress that I'd seen on both Elle of Fast Food & Fashion and Jean of Extra Petite. I was in love with the color and silhouette, and heard it fit fairly small. Unfortunately, the kelly green was sold out in everything smaller than 6, but I was able to find the same dress in black to try on in a size 2:

FIT: Although this dress looks amazing on both Elle and Jean, it's a little too big on me. I guess this isn't too surprising, since I'm shorter than both of them, but it was still disappointing at how ill-fitted this dress was. You can kind of see what I mean in these photos - the front of the dress forms an odd "pooch" at the stomach, and it's far too long. The length can, admittedly, be hemmed and the torso of the dress fits decently, but...

VERDICT: I didn't buy it. I might try it on again if I find the kelly green version, just to see if it's at all workable in another color, but I don't have high hopes for this one.

Since I'm still on the hunt for the ideal LBD (one that can transition from day to night), this flared shift dress  in size 2 also caught my eye.

FIT: Whereas the former dress was at least somewhat fitted in the torso, this one was baggy both in the back and at the front. Although the bagginess at the back doesn't show as visibly in these photos, you can kind of see the awkward way this dress fits at the front - it hangs loose instead of tight around the bust. And again, the hem of the skirt is far too long, and the flared style makes it look almost matronly.
VERDICT: On me, this dress doesn't work at all. I think it would look cute on a petite who is slightly taller, though.

Lastly, I found this blazer from H&M's Conscious Collection on sale for 50% off $69.95. I fell in love with the beading and the dusty pink color and had to try it on.

FIT: So I'm fairly sure this jacket is supposed to be more fitted, but it fits me more like a swing jacket overall.  It flares out (most noticeable in the center photo) but it hits at an appropriate length at both the hip and wrist.
VERDICT: Bought! It was too pretty to pass up, and it didn't have any glaring fit issues. I've already worn this jacket twice!

That's it for now! I plan to take photos soon of the ASOS haul I tweeted about before Christmas (which includes a pair of colored jeans, two dresses, and some cobalt trousers...), but what with the holidays, I just haven't had the time. But speaking of ASOS, they've now further reduced a ton of items to 70% off - so if you've been eyeing anything in particular, now is the time to buy! See my favorite picks here.

If I don't get a chance to post before then, I hope you all have a wonderful New Year's (Eve)! Do you have anything planned for the big night? I definitely do - it's my first time in NYC, so I'm planning to go all out. How about you?

  1. It's definitely a challenge finding clothes that fit as a petite. But keep at it and I'm sure you'll find the right LBD! I'm going to check out the ASOS sale...70% off is crazy!

Have fun on NYE. When I lived in Manhattan it was fun getting all dressed up!

  7. I'm having so much fun thinking up outfit pairings for this jacket, so it's definitely going to pop up a lot! And yeah, I was definitely bummed about the LBDs, but I'm sure I'll find one sooner or later!

  8. They're really cute! They didn't fit me too well in the end, but if you're even slightly taller than me, you should definitely check them out. :)

  11. Thanks for the reviews!  I love that blazer and the beading detail though I wish the sleeves were more fitted (that's just me being nitpicky).

  14. No, I totally agree - that's my biggest qualm about the blazer too. I'm considering getting them tailored, but I haven't decided yet!
